Tayali Advocates for 16th Protocol to Enhance Tanzania-Zambia Railway

Transport and Logistics Minister Frank Tayali has urged the finalization of the 16th protocol to boost technical cooperation for the Tanzania-Zambia Railway. He acknowledged the progress by both governments and emphasized the need for this new protocol. Chinese Counsellor Jin Jun expressed eagerness for feedback on the protocol, indicating a willingness to renegotiate to facilitate collaboration.

Frank Tayali, the Transport and Logistics Minister, has advocated for the prompt finalization of the 16th protocol aimed at enhancing technical cooperation for the Tanzania-Zambia Railway (TAZARA). During a meeting with Mr. Jin Jun, the Economic Counsellor at the Chinese Embassy, Mr. Tayali appreciated the strides made by both Tanzania and Zambia toward revitalizing TAZARA. He underscored the significance of executing the 16th protocol between Zambia and China.

Permanent Secretary Fredrick Mwalusaka emphasized that TAZARA has been functioning under the 15th protocol, stressing the urgent need for the government to advance towards the 16th protocol. This progression is deemed essential for the successful redevelopment of the railway service.

Counsellor Jin Jun conveyed that the Chinese government is eager for feedback concerning the 16th technical cooperation, expressing their openness to renegotiating these agreements. He also noted his satisfaction regarding the feedback from the People’s Republic of Tanzania received the previous year, indicating a collaborative spirit in moving forward with this initiative.

The call for the 16th protocol by Minister Frank Tayali represents a significant step toward revitalizing the Tanzania-Zambia Railway. With support from both the Tanzanian and Chinese governments, there is optimism that the necessary technical cooperation will enhance TAZARA’s operations.
