A catastrophic tanker explosion occurred in Karamin Rami village, located in the Mashegu Local Government Area of Niger, resulting in the tragic loss of seven lives. One additional individual sustained injuries during the incident, which transpired on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at approximately 6:30 p.m.

The Public Relations Officer of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), Ibrahim Hussaini, reported that the disaster unfolded when a tanker transporting Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) lost control on a damaged road, leading to a fuel spill into an adjacent stream where local farmers were tending to their rice fields.

This spilled fuel ignited, generating a fire that subsequently engulfed the tanker and resulted in a massive explosion. The inferno not only claimed lives but also devastated agricultural land, destroying the entire rice field alongside fruits and vegetation.

The deceased have been identified as Rafiatu Sahabi, Ramlat Shehu, Rashida Abdullahi Raliya, Abdulrahaman, Zainab Ahmed, Zuwaira Idrisu, and Maryam A. Nura. Additionally, Maimuna Isah, a farmer who was injured in the explosion, is currently receiving medical care at Saho Rami Primary Health Care.

With seven lives tragically lost and one individual injured, the event highlights the urgent need for improved safety measures and infrastructure to prevent such disasters in the future.
