The center will enhance engineering and manufacturing collaboration, operating from locations in Tetouan and Tangier. The company’s production and export activities in 2024 reached record levels, ensuring its stability as the largest private enterprise in Morocco.

Renault Group Morocco has announced the establishment of a new engineering center named Renault Technology Morocco (RTMA), appointing Francisco José Martín Hernández as Director General, effective March 1. The center will operate from two locations: its headquarters in Tetouan, dedicated to technological activities, and a facility at the Renault Group plant in Tangier, focusing on industrial operations, thereby enhancing collaboration between engineering and manufacturing.

The Tangier facility is strategically designed to be close to production sites, fostering better synergy between departments. Hernández will report to Cedric Combemorel, Deputy CTO – VP Global Engineering & Tech, while functionally aligning with Mohamed Bachiri, Director General of Renault Group Morocco. His extensive technical expertise and understanding of group challenges have facilitated his rise through various key positions across Spain, Romania, and France.

With a degree in industrial engineering from the Polytechnic University of Madrid and École Centrale de Lyon, Hernández has been with Renault since 2002, holding significant roles in quality engineering and project management. Most recently, he served as Head of the Vehicle Engineering Department at Renault Technology Spain and was a representative for Ampère.

The launch of RTMA coincides with Renault Group Morocco’s strong performance, achieving a record production of 413,614 vehicles in 2024, an 8% increase from the previous year. The Tangier plant produced 312,381 units, marking a 9% rise, while the SOMACA plant exceeded 100,000 vehicles, reaching 101,233 units, representing a 7% increase.

The group’s export initiatives are also thriving, with approximately 370,165 vehicles exported to 68 destinations in 2024. The Tangier facility alone exported 298,045 units, comprising 95% of its total production, while Casablanca exported 72,120 vehicles, accounting for 71% of its overall volume. In the domestic market, Renault Group Morocco maintained a strong lead, with Renault capturing a 16.1% market share by selling 28,348 vehicles, and Dacia securing a dominant 25% market share through 39,330 units sold in 2024.

The company recorded an impressive turnover of MAD 63 billion ($6.3 billion), reinforcing its status as the largest private enterprise in the country. Furthermore, its automotive ecosystem constitutes 38% of the sector’s overall turnover, employing over 10,000 individuals.

Renault Group Morocco has successfully established the Renault Technology Morocco engineering center, aimed at enhancing engineering and manufacturing collaboration. With Francisco José Martín Hernández at the helm, the initiative coincides with significant production and export achievements in 2024. The company also boasts impressive domestic market share figures, securing its position as Morocco’s largest private business and a pivotal player in the automotive sector.
