Benin Women Rally Against Domestic Violence Following Tragic Murder of Pregnant Housewife

Women in Benin City protested the murder of 38-year-old Success Izekor, allegedly killed by her husband. The demonstration highlighted rising domestic violence. Success was four months pregnant when she was stabbed. The protesters called for justice, citing disturbing claims about her husband’s trial. Police confirmed the incident was severe, resulting in a promise for a thorough investigation.
A collective of women, organized under the name “Concerned Market Women,” demonstrated peacefully in Benin City on Monday to protest against the tragic murder of 38-year-old Success Izekor, who was reportedly killed by her husband, Kelvin Izekor. The incident occurred on February 22, 2025, when Success, pregnant with her first child, was allegedly fatally stabbed at their residence on Upper Mission Road.
Carrying various placards, the protesters voiced their concerns about the disturbing rise in domestic violence targeting women. Odion Asemota, speaking on behalf of the group, urged the government to ensure that justice is served for Success Izekor. Amid the ongoing trial of her husband, Asemota highlighted disturbing claims that Kelvin’s mother is expressing confidence in his impending acquittal based on supposed mental illness.
Asemota recounted the troubling timeline, noting that Success married Kelvin in June 2024, and a mere eight months later, he committed the fatal act. Disturbingly, after the murder, Kelvin is alleged to have taken money from Success’s Point of Sale business and attempted to conceal her body, although he was interrupted by vigilant neighbors.
The Edo State Police Command confirmed the murder, revealing details from Public Relations Officer Moses Yamu. Upon arriving at the scene, police discovered Success’s lifeless body, and it was reported that Kelvin was nearly lynched by a mob before being rescued and taken into custody for further investigation.
Police Commissioner Betty Enekpen Isokpan Otimenyin condemned the increase in domestic violence incidents, assuring the public that a thorough investigation would be conducted and pledging that individuals found guilty would face severe repercussions.
The protests by Concerned Market Women exemplify the growing alarm over domestic violence, particularly in the case of Success Izekor, whose murder has ignited public outrage. The alleged circumstances surrounding her death underscore the community’s demand for accountability and justice. Authorities have promised a comprehensive investigation, emphasizing a commitment to addressing the broader issue of domestic violence. Such cases highlight the urgent need for systemic changes in protecting vulnerable individuals and promoting equality. The community’s collective voice seeks to inspire legislative and societal shifts that will ensure safety and justice for all.
