France Moves to Blacklist Iran’s IRGC Amid Human Rights Concerns

France’s Parliament has moved to blacklist Iran’s IRGC by passing a resolution condemning human rights abuses. The IRGC is linked to numerous violations, including support for terrorism and repression within Iran. This action aims to prompt the EU to also classify the IRGC as a terrorist organization, which would have substantial implications for the group’s activities and Iran’s regime.

On January 29, 2025, the French Parliament passed a resolution condemning Iran’s human rights abuses and advocating for the European Union to designate the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and Basij forces as terrorist organizations. The resolution highlights systematic violations of human rights in Iran, including the pervasive use of the death penalty, state violence against women and children, and severe discrimination against women.

The recent resolution by the French Parliament represents a significant step toward international action against Iran’s IRGC and Basij forces. By advocating for their designation as terrorist organizations, the EU could hinder their operations and counter the threats they pose both within Europe and globally. The advocacy from AJC aligns with broader efforts to uphold human rights and strengthen security throughout the region.
